Written by Stephen and Alex Kendrick with Lawrence Kimbrough, The Love Dare is a 40 day devotional directed at husbands and wives to take the challenge and learn to truly love each other. Beyond that, The Love Dare is a scripture-based book that teaches what unconditional love really is according to God’s word.
The Love Dare Concepts
Like a devotional, this book bases all of its concepts on Biblical examples. The Bible has much to say about love, marriage and relationships between people, including friends, family members, spouses and children. Each day uses a scripture about love, marriage, husbands or wives and builds upon it. Each day explains a thought-provoking concept related to the scripture and why it is important that it is understood. While some of these concepts may be common sense to some readers, to others they will be new ideas. The concepts are explained in a way that makes them understandable and employable.
Among these concepts, The Love Dare explains the difference between different kinds of love – “agape”, “eros”, and “phileo” – and the harmony that is needed between them to maintain a healthy relationship. The book also explains some of the differences between men and women that many people do not understand and how they, in many ways, complete each other.
Fireproof Movie Featuring The Love Dare
The well received and widespread film, Fireproof, starring Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea, features The Love Dare and demonstrates what the book is about and what it can do for a marriage. As it is shown in the movie, The Love Dare challenges actions and attitudes that husbands and wives have toward one another and dares them to think differently. Fireproof also shows that the book can help change not only the reader’s understanding of love and the importance of marriage, but the reader’s life as well.
The Love Dare Challenge
The Love Dare seeks to edify the reader in teaching how to understand how to uphold a good marriage and how to love his or her spouse. But beyond that, it is a useful relationship book that helps the reader work on improving himself rather than trying to change another person.
Although it is directed at husbands and wives, many (but not all) of the concepts explained in the book can not only be applied to loving one’s spouse, but to loving one’s family members, friends or coworkers. The Love Dare devotional makes a great Valentine's Day gift and can be read and used by anyone who dares to live up to the challenge presented by it.
